Conservation Voters Endorse Shelley Madore
September 29, 2006
Minneapolis, MN - The Minnesota League of Conservation Voters (MNLCV) announced their endorsement of Shelley Madore for State House District 37A. Madore earned the endorsement based on her interest in making conservation a top priority at the capital.
Madore cites the state’s $14 billion tourism and outdoor recreation economy, and the increase in health problems associated with contaminants such as pesticides and mercury as two key reasons to address Minnesota’s environmental challenges. She supports full and permanent funding of the Clean Water Legacy Act, a plan enacted in 2006 that will restore and protect the state’s 10,000 polluted lakes, rivers and streams.
“Shelley understands that our state’s economy, the health of our families, and our tradition of outdoor recreation depend on the protection of our natural heritage,” said Paul Austin, the League’s executive director. “She’ll be an outstanding advocate for everyone who values our treasured Minnesota way of life.”
Transportation is a key issue for Madore who is concerned about the amount of fuel wasted while sitting in traffic, and the decline of air and water quality from smog and other pollutants. “Shelley will lead the fight for a multi-modal system that keeps our state moving,” said Austin. “She knows that it’s time for Minnesota’s transportation system to adapt to our growing state and changing needs.”
Madore’s other legislative priorities include increasing the use of wind and other renewable sources of energy, eliminating invasive species that attack native wildlife and habitat, and working with local governments to ensure smart growth and development to support the state’s growing population.
MNLCV is a non-partisan organization whose mission is to elect candidates who understand that Minnesota’s economy, health, and way of life rely on the protection of the state’s natural heritage. This year, the League endorsed 11 Republicans and 16 Democrats who will champion efforts to preserve our water, air, wildlife and habitat.

Education Minnesota Endorses Shelley Madore
July 27, 2006
Minnesota's largest organization of teachers and educators, Education Minnesota, has announced that they are endorsing Shelley Madore for the Minnesota Legislature.
"I am thrilled to accept the endorsement of Education Minnesota in my candidacy for election for the Minnesota House this fall. As a parent, I have had the great pleasure of working with all levels of ISD #196. I have participated in Early Childhood programs, parenting through elementary, middle and high schools and as a volunteer through the advisory councils and community education programs," said Madore.
Madore has been strong activist for improving public education for a number of years and noted that teachers in the area have had to deal with increasing class sizes, budget cuts and increasing testing demands. "None of these problems have been adequately addressed by our state legislature for a very long time. When pressed to come up with a solution, the only thing that is offered is funding through increases in property taxes," said Madore.
She also said that the use of increased property taxes to pay for public schools is "a strategy that is failing our schools and our children."
Education Minnesota was formed in 1998 by the merger of the Minnesota Education Association and the Minnesota Federation of Teachers, and includes 70,000 educators.
Shelley Madore Registers for Minnesota House
July 5, 2006
Shelley Madore, the DFL endorsed candidate for 37A, registered to run for the Minnesota House of Representatives today (7-5-06).
“This is a good day for my friends and neighbors in Apple Valley and Burnsville,” said Madore. As a 15-year community activist, she is ready to take on the challenges of representing District 37A—a growing and dynamic community.
Madore notes that her registration to run marks the beginning of a race to bring strong leadership and a solid commitment to residents’ priorities. “For too long, our communities’ needs have been a pawn in political games,” said Madore. “It’s time to take back this seat and concentrate on the needs of citizens here in the south metro.”
“Transportation is one of this area’s highest priorities,” Madore said. She pledged to help move the south metro into the forefront of transportation decision-making. “I’m looking forward to working with legislative colleagues to solve the gridlock that has stalled growth in Dakota County.”

Her particular concerns are education, transportation and health care.
She also noted the fact that it was April Fool's Day and asked the
delegates, "will you join me in not allowing our friends and neighbors to be
fooled again this year into believing that no new taxes pledges do not mean
no new increases?" She was referring the controversial proposed tax
increases by Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty and supported by the elected
officials in SD37.
Madore was very warmly received by the delegates and no one objected to the call for a unanimous endorsement by the DFL.
