Shelley’s Vision
I envision a Minneapolis where everyone, regardless of ability, has equal access to opportunities, resources, and community participation. Through dedicated policy reform, unwavering advocacy, and a commitment to inclusivity, we can build a future where all citizens are empowered, valued, and able to contribute to the prosperity of our community.
My Commitment to You
PUBLIC SAFETY
I support building a better Minneapolis police force to restore community policing. This will improve police-community relations throughout the city.
I will work with the MPD to make sure that law enforcement reflects Minneapolis by hiring more women, individuals from BIPOC communities, and people that live in Minneapolis.
I must further develop Minneapolis' mental health co-responder program.
I will fund programs for housing co-responders to provide resources for people experiencing homelessness.
AFFORDABLE HOUSING
I believe that every family deserves a safe home, and I have always supported tenants' rights.
I will collaborate with developers to include affordable housing in new ward developments.
I will advocate for affordable housing, policies that support aging in place, affordable home ownership, and renter protections.
I support finding an immediate solution to encampments while shorter and longer term solutions are developed with a Health & Human Service approach.
ECONOMIC GROWTH
I believe that we need to address the issues that make it difficult for small or new businesses to succeed in Minneapolis.
I will advocate for businesses in our city by simplifying the processes of permits, inspections, licensing, and accessing city resources.
I plan to lessen the degree of regulation and additional costs imposed on businesses in Minneapolis compared to similar jurisdictions.
I will work to increase loans and grants to encourage business development.
I will coordinate programs that train individuals for careers in technical fields; such as healthcare, IT, and construction to grow our city's economy.
TRANSPARENT LEADERSHIP
Your city council should work for you. As a trusted public servant, I plan to do just that.
I will be transparent about our goals and progress in Ward 2 newsletters.
I plan to form focus groups to get your input on your city's government.
I will show up and listen, and then put action to those concerns.
I am always ready to answer an email, pick up the phone, or meet face-to-face with any resident that wants to be heard.
While I believe these changes can be made to make Minneapolis an even more equitable and inclusive city, I know it will take work. I will put in the work to make sure that every voice is heard and every neighborhood, business, family, and person can thrive here. As a community, we can make this shared vision a reality.
